This is the finale of the “Mixing a Rock Song From Start To Finish” series – Finishing The Mix! In this series, I take you through the mixing process from scratch. If you’ve missed any of the previous parts, you can find them all linked below.
- Part 1 – Prep and Levels
- Part 2 – Mixing Drums
- Part 3 – Mixing Bass
- Part 4 – Mixing Guitars
- Part 5 – Mixing Vocals
- Part 6 – Automation
In this final part we’ll be finishing the mix and polishing it up! If you’ve ever had trouble getting your mixes finished and ready for mastering, this is the video for you. Find out how I critically listen to the whole mix and make quick decisions on any rough edges that I come across. In addition, I add extra effects, re-balance levels and make subtle changes to plugins to glue the mix together and add a final layer of sheen.
And now it’s your turn. Mixing as much as possible is the best way to learn, so take what you’ve learnt in this series and apply it! And of course, leave a comment below if you want any more detail on any aspects of the mixing process, or if you have any trouble with finishing the mix yourself.
